Q: What size spit rod will fit through the hole?

Any standard size. Ours is a Weber.

Q: Can this be used in an air fryer?

I haven’t tried it yet but i done see why not. It metal and it is made to handle high temperatures. the real question is, will it fit in your air fryer ?

Q: Will the cornish hen version work with a 2.5 to 3lb chicken?

I found it not to hold the legs of the chicken. It might cooking it in the oven but I tried it on the bbq rotisserie . One or the the legs would come out of the part that holds then in . Glad you saw it was for something smaller it might work for you did not work for me .
