Enough for the buck
The media could not be loaded. First time purchasing coco chips to use as an amendment for my chunky soil mix for my houseplants. It was fun watering and watching it expand and becoming soft. I used a small rake to break apart/ no dust content for the price and fast shipping it was a good price. Smells like cod chips lol.

Buyer Beware! Does Not Expand or Absorb Water
Update: my seedlings didnât even want to germinate in this stuff it was terrible. I bought another brand from Amazon that was also 6 bricks. Each brick in the new brand absorbed water quickly! It was 6 bricks and they produced three times as much beautiful coir that this one just doesnât. I donât know what this one has in it but I should have just thrown it away! Terrible product!Iâve used this type of product before, but the brand was different. This is my first time trying this brand. I bought a six pack box. First, wear a mask. Second, it doesnât seem to absorb water at all it seems to be sawdust because it doesnât expand. nor does it absorb water. The box store brand I used previously expanded wonderfully when water hit it. This one, not so much. Iâve had to break it up into small pieces. Hence the reason I said wear a mask. So disappointed. Even after breaking it up and adding water, no expansion. I would return this but I am outside the return window. I will never buy this brand again.

These are fairly large chips
I wanted larger chips as ground cover and to retain moisture this product works well --- much better than the finer products used for potting

Donât be fooled by the price
Donât be fooled by the price. This product is far less absorbent and compacted than other brandsâ. See attached photos comparing the hydration of two of these bricks (first three photos) compared to Coco Bliss brand bricks (last three photos) of the same size over the same amount of time. The Coco Bliss brand absorbed more water faster and expanded to nearly 5 gallons of material while it took at least 6 bricks of this product to barely get the same volume.

just right amount
filled the settled soil back to top in the pot with out smothering the plants, that's the plan, green thumb testing.

Nice basic coir brick for making seed starting mix
This is a nice neutral, fairly fine, coir. There is no information included with the brick itself on how to prepare it for use (looking at the listing again I see the information there, but it's often printed on other blocks somewhere on or on the back of the label for convenience while you're using it - this would be a helpful practice, for the seller to note). But from past experience I added the necessary water and broke it up with a trowel and my hands until it was fully expanded. The listing states 8x expansion, that it will create 2 gallons. I would say my experience was more like 1 gallon/ 4x expansion. (Unless they base it on a 1 gallon nursery pot, which of course is not the same as a normal gallon of volume, then maybe.)I mixed it with vermiculite, perlite, and some worm castings, and it created a nice fluffy mix that I started my seeds in today. No unexpected odors or debris, clean and neutral. The convenience of these compressed bricks is great, and of course the coco coir is making something useful out of an agricultural waste product, rather than depleting a natural resource as peat does. So overall a good choice for many applications.Happy with the product!
