Versatile, and reliable!

I’ve been using this jump starter with an air compressor for a while now, and it has been fantastic. I’ve used it three times to jumpstart two vehicles, and it works like a charm every time. It also does a great job inflating tires, and I’ve used it several times for that. One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need to charge it after each use—I’ve noticed it drops about 15-20% of its battery after use. To be safe, I always make sure it has at least 75% battery life before attempting to jumpstart a vehicle. Overall, it’s an excellent tool to have on hand for emergencies, and I highly recommend it!

Great combination of inflator and battery jumper.

I was so impressed with this that I immediately bought another unit for a family member. The tire inflator pump is loud, but that is to be expected, after all, it has to mechanically function somehow, right? Works as described, both as an emergency charger and an inflator. Holds charge over time without drop in power, in my experience, but the reserve capacity is not overly generous (but is adequate) and for piece of mind id used as an emergency tool, should be kept fully charged. Also, purchased it when it had a temporary price reduction, so got lucky. Good value. Certainly beats calling a tow truck or waiting for someone else to help you out of a spot.

Excellent product

Works as expected. Charged several batteries and went several weeks before unit needed recharged. Nice and compact also.

Can you see me now?

This little guy works like a grown man! I bought this for my motorcycle to have in case of an emergency. I use it regularly to fill the tires up on the bike, and also used to to air up my kids car. I have not used it to jump the bike (knock on wood) yet, but did use it recently to jump my co-workers full sized truck. Didn't miss a beat. This thing is tough and works great. My biggest complaint and reason I would NOT recommend buying it, is the inability to see the display during normal daylight hours. I have tried everything. Unless you know exactly what buttons to push to get you to the function you need, it will be USELESS. Too bad something so simple ruined what could have been an amazing product.

A must have!

I haven’t used the jump starter on this yet BUT this thing is a tank. It is a decent weight but it’s built strong. Got it and charged it and then pumped up tires for 3 cars and didn’t break a sweat. It seems pretty accurate when I compared it with my other tire gauge. Instructions are straight forward and the storage is cool on this machine. Easy to use and you should get one!

Will NOT start a completely dead battery - UPDATED

I've owned this jump starter for 9 months. Unfortunately for me, I've had the need to use it to jump start cars 4 times and inflate 3 tires. I also carry a compact digital multimeter (small clamshell-type). The AstroAI Jump Starter has been working fine, until a week ago. I tried to come to my friend's aid, jumping a small 1.3L Honda Fit engine. The engine takes a small, low-profile type 12v car battery. My friend had left the lights on overnight and when she tried to start the car, zero response. I applied the AstroAI Jump Starter with 89% charge, but due to zero voltage, the light on the clamp device would not even illuminate. Plugged in and attempted to start with no response at all. Multimeter read 3.2v, which is about as dead as can be. I had to drive to the auto parts store and buy some traditional jumper cables, upon which a jump was successful. In case the AstroAI device was dead, I tested against several car batteries in my Ford Taurus (3.5L EcoBoost V6), between 2v (cracked plate), 4v, and about 10v. It looks like the threshold voltage to have the device activate is a battery voltage somewhere between 4v (jump unsuccessful) and 10v (solid light, jump successful). I did not consider it practical to wind down car batteries to try to identify this voltage, but the device definitely requires some life in the battery to "trip" and work. I also tried testing against my 7 year old 700A starter. To be fair, they both failed the 4v battery and both passed the 10v battery. I'm just disappointed, as the product description of the AstroAI states the ability to jump a completely dead battery. It's also supposed to provide 1750A of cranking, but cranked similarly to my legacy 700A starter. I will continue to use the jump starter and am satisfied with the device, but do take into account that it will not start a dead battery. I just wanted to share the results of my testing to provide additional information.UPDATED 14 DECEMBER 2024I am updating my review to reflect on an interesting finding. For full disclosure, AstroAI sent me a replacement unit and asked me to run my tests again. I ran the full complement of testing with the replacement unit and was able to start Ford Taurus testbed with the new unit, even with a traditionally dead battery. This is NOT the end of the story however. Out of curiosity, I re-ran the test with the dead battery and the old unit. I had the same issue with the old unit not boosting the dead battery; the unit would not even click on to the higher current, which I thought was strange. From some inspiration, I tried swapping the device that interfaces with the car battery between the old and replacement unit. The same behavior occurred with the new unit. It looks like the problem is not with the AstroAI charging unit at all, but the circuitry in the interface block that adapts the AstroAI to the car battery. I had a defective interface block on my old unit! Now, my problem is, I haven't the faintest idea how I would troubleshoot that. Additional disclosure, it's very cold here and I did not continue my testing with the mid-charged car battery (still considered "dead") at this point in my investigation.I appreciated very much that AstroAI reached out to me to identify that my review did not jive with their understanding of the unit's capability. I don't actually know how I would troubleshoot the interface block, which is extremely similar to ones that every other jumper unit out there comes with. I do trust that AstroAI may come up with a rigorous testing regime for the individual components that come with their jumper. Top marks for customer service and device capability.

It Works With Caveats

So overall I bought this because it stated a decent amount of safety features, high battery storage capacity, was a decent size and had rapid both charging and inflating. So pound for pound this seemed to do it all with decent power. Now then I charged it up to maximum and have had it sitting in the back of a fairly cool car over winter so about 3 months or so; when I pulled it out it was down to 50% charge. Good news is the person who needed a jump start; the 50% worked for and then it was basically dead. So I recharged it.Two weeks later was helping someone along the side of the road with a flat and it pumped the tire up about 50% of the way and the compressor just stopped working. It was enough for the person to get to a service station but I was hoping to get closer to full so they were guaranteed to get there. Got home and the compressor now worked again but very weakly. Also DO NOT HOLD THE HOSE when pumping air into a tire; it gets literally superficial burns hot.
